The Science

Biological Imperative Ratio

Modern hydration practices have lost sight of biology. At Purely Electrolytes, we focus on the foundational mechanisms of human physiology: specifically, the interplay between intent and nutrition in cardiovascular wellness and cellular health.

Flipping the Script on Modern Nutrition

In North America, our sodium-to-potassium intake is nearly the exact opposite of what human biology requires. Modern dietary realities—processed foods, excessive restaurant salt, and the persistence of "salty marketing"—mean the average Canadian consumes nearly double the Upper Limit (UL) for sodium daily.

Conversely, 90% of Canadians do not meet the Daily Value (DV)* target for Potassium. Correcting this ratio is a fundamental, but often overlooked, pillar of long-term wellness and cardiovascular support.

The 3:2 Biological Pump and ATP

The function of the Sodium-Potassium Pump is not optional. Every nerve impulse, heart beat, and muscle contraction depends on this system. It maintains the electrical charge across the cell membrane by consuming significant energy (ATP) to physically move 3 Sodium ions OUT and pull 2 Potassium ions IN.

For this 3:2 system to maintain equilibrium, it must be provided with the appropriate mineral balance. A high-sodium, low-potassium intake places immense pressure on this cellular engine.
